Research - Frank Auerbach

Frank Auerbach is an artist who created a piece work called - The Study of Primrose Hill (1973-44).

The reason why I decided to study Auerbach was because of his distinctive use of different colours. In my opinion the different colours represents different emotions. For example the red represents aggression, the green represents terror/ fear and the blue represents grief and sadness yet the yellow may represent joy/serenity. This is all according to Plutchik's wheel of emotion which I have mentioned in previous posts. I think that in some ways this painting contrasts/ balances emotions

I did an analysis of the colours used in Auerbach's painting.

I did this to show the palate Auerbach used. This has helped me to understand how to do this with photographs.
