Development of evolution:

For the next part of my project I have decided to play on the idea of the typical picture which demonstrates evolution which show the stages of an ape forming into a homo-sapien.

I used a model to act out the stages of evolution shown in many pictures.

I then used the magnetic lasso tool to cut the model out of the background. I did this on each picture. The following image is an example of how I used the magnetic lasso tool:

After doing this to each picture I used the internet to find images of fur. I used the clone stamp tool on photoshop to copy the fur and add it to the skin. This is what the finished version looked like:

In my opinion the image above looks fake and naive. When zoomed in you can see the detailed fur. Although as a finished version I thought it looked childish. I tried to improve and make this picture more realistic. I thought making the image a silhouette would improve its quality.

This is what happened when I changed the brightness and contrast settings. The reason I felt the need to improve this was because the fur was disguised by the silhouette. I used the smudge tool to drag the fur out so it could be seen in the silhouette. In addition I drew on claws using the paint brush tool. The following picture is the final image.

Instead of making all the of the steps of evolution having full fur I decided to play around with the typical conventions of the well known parable versions. I decided that each progressive stage of evolution from ape to Homo-sapien there would be less fur. So as I worked on each stage I decided to only do certain parts with the dragged out fur. Then I put the pictures in order. The following two images are the before and after I put the images into order.

As the previous picture looks bland I decided a background was ideal. I used the internet to find different types of appropriate background which would be suitable to the subject of evolution.

The following 4 images are from the internet. I will now state why I didn't use these images to be the background for my project.

The reason I didn't use this picture (^) to be the background of my project was because there was too much foliage and not enough floor space for the model's to "stand on."

The reason I didn't use this picture (^) was because the branches created too much linear form which would of distracted the attention away from the main focus of the progressive evolution of the models. As well as there was no floor space for the models to "stand on" and too much foliage distracted the attention away from the initial idea.

This image (^) wasn't compatible for the background of this project. One of the main reasons was because the image size was too small and if I would enlarge the image it would cause pixelation which would not enable me to print out the image or show it clearly on the blog so through technical error I couldn't of used the image. As well the floor wasn't even so it wouldn't allow the models to "stand" on the floor well. The reason I liked this picture was the foliage wasn't distracting in my opinion.

The reason I liked this picture (^) and decided to use it for this project's background was because there is enough floor space for the models to "stand" on. This image was distorting to the format of the camera's lens. So I used Photoshop to change the perspective. So I used both the perspective and distort tools to improve the perpendicular resolve of the trees.

After improving the background I incorporated the background with the silhouetted models.

This is what the final version looks like:

The reason I like this picture is because not only is evolution happening between the positions of each model, the hair on each models body from the first to the last decreases. This is because...

I took a different approach to this picture. As the background (jungle) is showing what the world looked like before it evolved and humans started using resources to build different structures. I wanted to incorporate another background into this picture.

This is how I did it:

1: I used the internet to find different scenes to be my background. I narrowed the options to New York City or a modern day office.

The reason I didn't think this scenario was suitable is because there is too much going on in the image. As the picture will need to be inserted in each silhouette model and the image wouldn't make sense if it was separated into parts:

Although the picture would fit perfectly in my project I think the disadvantage is it doesn't show the inner city which I will explain why I chose the following picture down below.

The image I decided to use was the following:

The reason why I chose this image to use in my background was because it shows the inner city. The cars, people in and out of uniform, advertising, road signs and tall buildings all show how the world has changed from natural scenarios to large cities.

2: First I tried using the image of New York as the background and super imposed the evolution progression.

3: Then I selected each silhouette and created a mask in Photoshop to merge the two images. I then pasted the city image into the black silhouette.

4: I thought the model didn't stand out enough. So I decided to create a shadow by changing the lighting angle to 176 degrees to emphasise the models.

This is what the final image looked like:
